CARSON FISK-VITTORI
It would be so wonderful to see the world through artist Carson Fisk-Vittori’s eyes. Everything is, or could be, a garden. Everything has beauty, even if it is hidden under the commercial. The natural is always pervasive.
Fisk-Vittori uses a combination of installations containing natural and man-made objects and video media. She is interested in the ways in which we create gardens. In a digital and urban world, where can we create these spaces of greenery and magic? In 'Garden Show' she plants flowers, herbs and leaves in a multi-pack of Sprite cans. The plastic packaging is still on, and the soda bubbles out around the leaves, creating a tiny 21st century fountain.
Chains of the natural and the commercial are created within her installations, seeds follow a women’s razor, which then follows a bottle of Garnier shampoo etc: an eternal circle of consumption of the chemical and the natural. Pictures of women are distorted in bottles of crystal clear water, addressing the way we advertise and idealize purity.
But in the end, Fisk-Vittori always returns to the garden, whether the virtual garden she has created, the weather and temperature flashing across the screen, or the garden spaces she creates inside gallery walls. These spaces are always sacred.
