ALEX DA CORTE
Mr. Da Corte understands merchandising, or rather, the lifecycle of merchandising. He looks for recycled meaning in the items we find, buy, then dispose, by breathing new life into them. He re-displays and re-purposes ‘useless’ items in a new, often not camera ready light. This isn't the place for glamorous studio shots. No-no, you'll find shots of a gigantic sub sandwich supported by Coca Cola cans against a Willy Wonka-esque striped wall paper. The images may not work for selling sandwiches, but it sure intrigues. His work is fun, a little frivolous, and fresh.
