YUNAN WANG
Born in Beijing, Wang travelled to London to study at the famous Central Saint Martins College of Art. Soon after graduation, the young designer travelled to New York where her studies at Parsons New School of Design paved the way for a fruitful fashion career.
Wang’s graduate collection from Parsons was a standout amongst that of her peers. Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena such as, shorelines, rain, running springs, fresh pearl and rain, her 'Untouched/Touched' collection blends soft colour and dark shade to create small worlds upon the fabric.
With textures and tones that resemble the beauty in nature’s darker side, Wang’s collection creates a world that is not only pure, but symbolic of the events that nature constantly thrusts upon us. The bold shapes and thick lines surround fabric that resemble rocks and streams with sea gradients highlighting it’s splendor. Each piece gives the wearer freedom to move instead of being confined by rigid fit and tailoring as each piece stiffly stands away from the body, resembling silk and cotton canvases rather than clothing.
