SCANDEBERGS
“Our aesthetic, as well as our style, is hard to explain.” Stefano Colombini and Alberto Albanese, of London based studio Scandebergs, certainly have an ability to consistently create works that can’t be pigeon holed. “We can actually say that we don't really know how to define what we do. We consider ourselves interested in body movements and interactions, we like to research and challenge the idea of "what is contemporary" and we are always looking for the uncommon into the most common things and situations”, the duo says.

The photographic and styling studio the boys established has become the hub for their creative projects that may inherit an undefinable characteristics, but are also undeniably cool. From collaborations and being published on Fucking Young, U+mag and POP, their style has drawn a following of fans no doubt due their ability to collaborate harmoniously.

“We work closely together, during the shoot we change around many times, whoever is not shooting will be seeing the shoot from a different perspective, so we share both angles and perception in every shoot and that is a good advantage to us, because we see what each other doesn’t see. We always end up discussing our final choices but in the end we always reach a perfect shared harmony,” they explain.

From fashion, to more stylistic endeavours, the boys are often inspired by art-forms, from the written word to the painted picture, “we are usually stuck on a certain word with its meaning, a quote or a contemporary art piece”. Although they have mastered the online platform to establish their careers and publish their work, they again wouldn’t want to pigeon hole themselves. “We would like our work to be seen as performative. So neither printed nor online should be seen as the ultimate platform,” they confess.

With an always changing creative approach and aesthetic the duo will continue to produce works that are beautiful but that also have you questioning the inspiration, forms and concepts behind them.
