ELLY CHENG
Cheng works with hand dyed sheepskin– a standout piece being the AW/14 ‘Toysrus’ furry rainbow choker– translucent silicone rubber, and layered wadding. She draws her inspiration from the emotions of her childhood, and memories of spending time with her mother and grandmother whilst her father was at work. These influences create a soft feminine feel to the pieces, a unique pastel aesthetic that breathes new life into traditional materials.
She describes these works as being about bringing aprons and floral dresses into day-wear, and states “it’s more about layering aprons and fluffiness. Shaping, softness, and texture.”
The models from the lookbook are sweet girly girls with sparkly eyebrows and butterfly clips, cuddling soft toys and backpacks.
Elly Cheng’s AW/14 “Toysrus” accessory collection harks back to a childhood love of ponies, softness and colour. Every item is perfect, a delightful pastel daydream.
