The intimate imagery doesn’t entirely seem staged, but there is an element of theatrics and (realistic) distance; they border between documentation and imagination, teetering the edges of intimacy and frivolity.
Kurmaz began by chronicling his life, capturing the intimate and honest processes that occur internally and externally. Though now, his approach to considered and articulate photography is extremely poetic; Kurmaz is a storyteller like no other. You do not see photographers like this everyday. He has removed himself from the boundaries of a 'boxed' artist. His aesthetic is undefined as his subject material and content is ambiguous and unparalleled.
“The world of art requires us to underscore originality and authorship, a certain manner that will distinguish you from all and make you unique. Today, I think authorship and style are boundaries for any artist. I strive constantly to look for something new - don’t stop anywhere, constantly experiment”.
