EXCLUSIVE ー UNDERGROUND SUNDAE AW15
Underground Sundae is the creative love-child of New Zealand designers Anne-Mieke Ytsma and Mima Bulj.
They aim to create pieces that capture the gritty harshness of a city landscape alongside the beauty of the natural world, such as freshly growing flowers, patches of moss and fungi. Some of their work is candy pink and reminiscent of a mermaid’s grotto, and some are intricate and delicately woven silver. They work with charm and tiny gemstones, creating precious pieces that serve as rare tokens.
Using materials ranging from rose gold to silver to onyx, Ytsma and Bulj create tiny works of art that you’ll want to cherish and hand down. They almost seem like mini shrines to nature and colour- flowers and words spring into existence, almost seeming organic, rather than constructed from man-made materials. They work with mostly contrast; pairing together elements that at first would seem jarring: metal paired with crystal, and other unnatural combinations.
Ytsma and Bulj's work is an interesting exploration into the process of the natural being re-created with foreign materials, of the sky meeting the earth.
And we are very excited to be sharing in the exclusive launch of the AW15 SKIN campaign imagery which was a collaboration with photographer Wave Lachish.
