Winter; long days and even longer nights, blanketed by a charcoal sky, crisp winds and all too unwelcome precipitation. But fear not! We’ve got our finger on the pulse of something that’s sure to knock your winter drab out of the park and replace it with some sweet summer lovin’ with the S/S 13/14 “Square Eyes” collection from SOOT the label.
PITCH favourite, Brisbane rep and all-round darling Edwina Sinclair – SOOT’s founder, owner and designer – presents for fashion’s forthcoming seasons the perfect and ultimately lusted after womenswear combination: simplicity, innovation and functionality with a vibe of muted sensuality.
Having perfected her craft with a fine arts degree under the influence of Queensland University of Technology’s fashion faculty, Sinclair’s contribution to the modern fashion game grows stronger in the presence seasonal change. Monochrome highlights in the form of an all-too-essential white mesh tent dress and an intricate combination of black poly ribbon and sheer delivered in a blouse as girlishly feminine as it is throw-a-leather-jacket-on-and-hit-the-town gutsy… And what a leather jacket it is. A bone patent offering the collection serious cool cred, its sleeves flirting with a geometric laser-cut motif trickling through to deliciously rich navy features. Electric blue checks echoing a hint of sweet nostalgia are toughened by a strong leather presence, whilst neoprene, embroidered cotton, jersey and gun metal metallics make appearances in panelled shifts, vests and a range of backless wonders. And there’s spandex. Yes, spandex.
