If you spent Thursday evening wandering along Ann Street in the Fortitude Valley, then you may have heard some bottles being popped, G6 style. Okay, maybe not G6 style, it wasn’t quite a ‘blizzard’ as the 2010 party anthem may have us believe. But a brisk Brisbane wind led the city’s fash-pack to the brick-front space that is the impossibly cool Blonde Venus in celebration of what we’re coining a soon-to-be iconic designer.

Austin Moro. You may have heard of him, you may not. But holy palm tree Batman, he’s one to keep an eye on!

Debuting an exclusive collection for the iconic retail space in support of the retailer’s mastermind Thea Basiliou, the Austin Moro label is set to reach new heights, pushing the brand’s prior 60s-sweet boundaries a morsel further to generate a collection that speaks to the modern woman. Palm trees, polka dots and florals emblazon separates deliciously interchangeable with crème/camel combos – pieces we can see in the wardrobes of serious design enthusiasts, well, everywhere really. Oh, and the daisy motif atop leathers and exquisitely crafted sheers synonymous with the designer’s debut “Calypso” wares also make an appearance.

Moro’s been a local favourite since he skipped out of the Queensland University of Technology with a fine arts degree under his arm when 2012 wrapped. But the bright lights and city sounds of the Big Apple will see him make the cross-Atlantic trip to the big smoke to bring Australian design savvy and a fresh aesthetic to the busy streets of NYC. But the Moro roots will always lie in Brisbane, and we’re proud to have them here.
