ALPHA CRUXIS
In the words of fabled Australian musician/comedian Tim Minchin, “we export this”. Many Australians have travelled overseas to create their empires and fortunes and many of them have been fashion designers. With a perfectly crafted niche idea, Australian designer Rebecca Martin travelled to Berlin to immerse herself in creating her unique accessory label Alpha Cruxis, which features pieces we wouldn’t usually see on the accessory market.
Alpha Cruxis first established itself in 2013 and has released a very minimalistic line of bags and clutches simply titled ‘Geometry’. The fitting name is extended to the shapes that the bags and clutches inhabit, of which many designers have not been bold enough to experiment with. With rectangles, squares and even triangles being used to create a sunning line of over-shoulder bags and clutches, the ‘Geometry’ collection was a quick hit and for Alpha Cruxis AW14 collection, an additional five accessories have been added to the already stellar line up of pieces.
Alpha Cruxis prides themselves on their clean-cut items that all use Italian vegetable tanned Full Grain leather on the outside of their pieces, while soft suede is used on the inner lining. The AW14 pieces are no different and present a successful use of the 3D effect on each piece making the items seem very sturdy and structured. The five new pieces include a backpack with fully adjustable straps, a large rectangular clutch, a slim rectangular clutch, a minimalistic belt bag and finally, a heptagonal over the shoulder bag that also features a removable strap, making it usable as a bag or clutch.
Each of these pieces can be transformed and fitted to the wearer’s needs making them not only minimalistic-ally stylish and sleek, but also multi-functional and capable. The pieces featured in the AW14 and ‘Geometry’ collections all have inner pockets that will hold anything you need, so don’t be fooled by the solid shape, all of your things will not just fall to the bottom of your bag. Each item is black and only comes in the single colour, as the leather is best presented in the shade and suits any outfit that you choose to pair it with.
The geometric style used throughout the Alpha Cruxis label show minimalistic elegance within the label, with the cuts being so clean which makes the collection all the more mind-blowing once you remember that each item is hand-made, being cut, sewn and finished in the label’s own Berlin studio.
