ANNA-SOPHIA BERGER: FASHION IS FAST
Anna-Sophie Berger is one designer who seems to be pushing the boundaries in modern fashion. Many designers create fashion to be worn and seen, Berger however seems to create fashion that should not only be worn and seen, but also appreciated in a completely different medium.
After studying at the University Of Applied Arts in Vienna, Berger has created a name for herself not only as a designer, but also as a visual artist. As Zac Kitnik explains on Berger’s website:
“Anna-Sophie Berger’s work is nomadic. It moves from the wall to the body to the floor, mirroring an established model, the journey our own clothing makes each night.”
Thus she creates clothing that can be appreciated as a piece of high fashion, an artistic display, or as part of a photographic composition. Berger's designs have many faces and it is the variety of faces she gives her clothing that keeps it visually appealing, and fresh.
Berger's collections often taking on a uniform quality, reproduced images, artworks, or articles of clothing with slightly different colours or appearance.
Her current ‘Fashion Is Fast’ collection shows just a singular unisex t-shirt displaying a one-size-fits-all quality. Through using washed out photographs in her look book, you see a the shirt worn by a variety of different people, in different situations, driving her artistic background to show one piece of clothing in a “nomadic” fashion.
One could say she has a 'fashion is universal' approach.
