THE YOUNG NEVER SLEEP
In my opinion, Branden Collins of the Atlanta-based interdisciplinary studio The Young Never Sleep has the best job in the world. This crazy kid not only manages his own studio, but he is a designer over at Adult Swim and wait for it, wait for it... Cartoon Network! Hello jealousy. I remember when I was younger (my family couldn’t afford Foxtel), so whenever we had the chance to go to my cousins house (who did), my sister and I would jump at it! Screw spending time with the family, we just wanted to watch Sailor Moon, Scooby Doo, The Flinstones, and the mother of them all, Pokémon! I would like to include The Powerpuff Girls in that list, but when I began questioning why a lonely man created three little girls in a lab in the basement of his home, my appreciation for the show changed...

The studio work of Branden’s over at The Young Never Sleep reflects everything I love about my childhood shows. His typeface illustrations for Bones Magazine par example: it’s fun, quirky, and has so much detail jammed packed that any kid (or even grown up, like myself) would be happy to stare at until they’ve inspected every inch and found every wacky character hidden within the swirling lines and bubbly typography.

His work is everything you love about being a kid; being carefree and silly. There is a lot of humour and (calculated) craziness in Branden’s work, you can’t help but go for it. Make sure you check out his website, specifically his Wet Thugs Fiction he made in collaboration with Chris Golden, Joseph Veazey and Joe Bevill. It's the coolest zine ever... second to PITCH of course!
