Coolest name of the year goes to designer Roos Gomperts. The recent graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven was featured during Dutch Design Week ’12, presenting an incredible series of colorful ceramics created during her final year of study.
“Ceramics for Plastics” is a compilation of everyday (and ultimately unrecognised) basic utility vessels like buckets, screw tops, and disposable cups. The incredibly colorful and fanciful sculptures highlight the individual characteristics which contribute to the products peculiarity. The series sheds light on those things forgotten; appreciating things which are usually unappreciated. Gomperts’s transformed objects are vibrant and functional, giving reason to investigate those things which lurk within our own cupboards and storages. Take note next time you're spring cleaning.
In collaboration with Thalia de Jong, Gomperts directed an almost instructional video for the series, informing the viewer (obliquely) by presenting the function and presentation of the ceramics - “A pleasantly diverting multimedia counterpart to the whimsical works themselves”.
I absolutely love Roos Gomperts work, even more then I love her name. Check out her incredible portfolio of work via her website, specifically her “Plastic Wood” series of which I adore. Keep an eye out on this one.
