LEONIE BARTH
After studying a university degree some people decide to take those qualifications into the world and hope for the best. Others are determined to leave their mark and learn as much as they can about their chosen profession before embarking on their career journey. German fashion designer Leonie Barth is one of the more driven university graduates and all of her hard work has most definitely paid off.
Barth began her fashion career studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Hannover. After graduating Barth went on to study further and broadened her knowledge of the fashion industry before finally graduating as a full fashion designer earlier this year.
Throughout her studies, Barth created a series of beautiful collections capturing a unique view of high fashion that has no doubt been developed over many years. Cleanly cut pieces and bold fabrics dominate her collections and her latest series uses both elements to express a very defined idea as well as light colours and shining fabrics.
Leonie Barth’s latest collection, post graduation, “I Is An Other” draws inspiration from psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s theory of “the mirrored image”. The theory states that our mirror image completes our identity and as missing parts are added into ourselves, other parts become reflected and create completeness. “I Is An Other” features pieces that do in fact have pieces missing and paired with the shining fabrics that resemble mirrors,
Barth successfully presents Lacan’s theory through the medium of fashion an we personally want to add these pieces to further develop out fashion identities.
