“I’ve always had an inherent satisfaction in making things that can be used in some way, and have always been creative... So when I decided to study a design degree and ceramics was an option, everything just fell into place.”
Introducing Milly Dent, a girl who has such an aptness for design that her artistic and considered ceramics have us wishing we could rework an entire space to showcase her polished pieces to the degree they deserve. Based in Sydney, Australia, Dent is a designer that continues to create wares that go beyond merely possessing an inherent usability. Her unique and intricate marble design detailing adds an artistically distinctive edge.
“My process is very intuitive and fluid, and the results wonderfully unpredictable. The marbling process is based on spinning the mould around, and is very hit and miss. Over time I have been able to refine the process and know what I need to do to in terms of timing and amounts of colour, to get the most refined results.”
And she’s done so with absolute ease. Her ceramic pieces are clean, aesthetically balanced and have the ability to elevate any space. Dent's intelligent use of line and geometric shape speak volumes of her understanding in design, enabling her to create ceramics that are eclectic yet intrinsically pure and practical.
