GRAAZ EYEWEAR SHOWCASE
Words by Madeline Stack
Sunglasses are generally not acceptable attire for a gloomy winter evening – unless, that is, they’re being tried on by fashionable folk eager to get their hands on the wares of cult eyewear designer Graz. The lack of sunshine didn’t stop guests from last Thursday turning up to get hands-on with the collection, spanning everything from bright acetate sunglasses to more subtle spectacles.
Letting his glamourous guests steal the spotlight, the unassuming designer Graz Mulcahy enjoyed a rare opportunity to look back on the entirety of his collection – all 160 pieces of it – displayed around the glass walls of James St optical mecca Optiko. He takes the view that the design process is more about evolution than revolution, saying: ‘I prefer to think of the collection as more like a tumbleweed – it’s not a new idea every season, but rather adding and removing pieces to make sure the range is always classic but current.’
Das Moth provided the tunes, and it was standing room only in the jewel-like boutique. One guest had her eye on a number of pairs, remarking that she would be embarking on the hunt for a whole glasses wardrobe after seeing what Graz had to offer.
