We were lucky enough to not only chat to, but shoot the creative threat that is photographer and model Josh Dowdle.
PITCH / Where are you from?
JOSH / I’m from the Gold Coast; mum is Japanese and dad is Australian.
What do you do?
I kind of do too much, it's starting to become a problem. I study biomedical science. I'm in my third year but I think I hate it. I play music too. I used to play in a band but one of the guys went overseas. I've also been trying my hand at photography lately so we'll see where that goes. I don't know, I think I probably spend most of my time procrastinating.
How would you define your personal aesthetic?
I don’t really know. I have a lot of vintage clothes and there’s a lot of black and white – minimal stuff. It kind of depends on what I feel like wearing. I think I want to live in the 80s.
What makes you lose it?
A lot of things make me laugh, I’m pretty childish.
What inspires creativity?
Often if I can’t get started on a certain project, whether it be music or art or whatever, I just go for a surf. Sometimes I sing really loudly when I’m out by myself! Oh, and Tumblr.
What’s the best thing about modelling?
Probably being able to meet new and interesting people – I’ve met lots of cool people through modelling. It also helps with my photography, which is really great.
Have you had any weird experiences in the field?
Not really, just my first ever modelling job. I walked in all stressed out about poses and ended up just lying down the whole time while they shot me from above.
I really love making things, being creative. Music, photography, art – I love being able to express myself through those things.
What do you dream about?
Travel; there’s so much out there that I want to see and do.
