PAGEANT AW14
New Australian fashion designers are emerging at a rapid rate and many are producing garments with unique elements that are breaking the fashion mold. There is an industry perception that fashion should push boundaries and bringing something new to the table. That is exactly what Australian brand, Pageant, has done with their AW14 collection.
Founded in 2010, designers Amanda Cumming and Kate Reynolds have utilised their multi-disciplinary talents and are creating collections that bring together fashion and art. Pageant has collaborated with a variety of artists and publications such as: SHOWstudio, HTRK, SIBLING, Antuong Nguyen and Maximum Rin, to create artistically diverse, and visually unique collections.
As autumn rolls into Australia, some may already feel the scorching heat of summer drifting away. With more rain suddenly appearing and the sun being hidden by giant translucent pillows of grey, it seems Australia is already set for winter, and Pageant are as well. The brand’s AW14 collection has been shared and it holds the perfect mix of thick winter warmers and light summer frocks, perfectly identifying with the Australian autumn.
Fiber Optics holds a healthy mix of sportswear and casual street attire. With thick ski jumpers, heavy jackets, and puffy skirts designed to protect you from the cooler months, you’d be mistaken for thinking that this indeed is a collection mainly for fashion spirits who roam the ski fields. However with the addition of lighter dresses, flannelette skirts and pieces that have been crafted with unique nylon fabrics, Fiber Optics also shows a balancing, warmer side.
The Australian autumn is perfectly demonstrated in Fiber Optics, with its heavy garments for the cold days, and lighter garments for the warmer days. The added bonus of pure pastels colouring the collection gives a softer, dreamlike appearance, something Pageant has seemingly made an aesthetic goal this season.
