SPENCERONI
With the ingredients of a colourful palette, considered line, energetic shapes and a dash of fun, Spencer Harrison has just the right method to bring them together and create the most delightful feast for every pair of eyes.
Based in Melbourne, this graphic artist, designer and illustrator, is the talented guy behind Spenceroni, where everything from playful illustrations, commercial projects and patterned prints, to handcrafted ceramics and leather products can be found.
“I’ve always been drawn to colour, pattern and play, so I guess it comes naturally to me. I spent several years in my early twenties ‘trying to grow up’ and be a ‘professional’, doing work that didn’t feel totally true to myself! Now I try to be totally authentic in my work, doing stuff that pleases me, is fun and allows me to explore my ideas about the world,” he says.
Emerging from a scientific background with a degree in nanotechnology, Harrison made the shift to study design as the creative nature he had as a child returned. Perhaps it is this unique pairing of science and design that has enabled his growing success within the graphic design world, as its clear he knows how to discern his curiosity whilst allowing his spontaneity and sense of exploration to enliven his designs.
“If I was to describe my aesthetic I’d say it’s naive; colourful. A little imperfect, human, playful and fun. A reflection of how I want to live my life,” Harrison explains.
Currently producing summer inspired patterns for a local clothing company while working towards a solo exhibition to further explore the idea of play and showcase his vivid creations, Harrison doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. And boy are we glad.
