There are a few things that Melbourne-based label Kuwaii does oh-so-right to get us going. It may be the harmonious balance of form and function that each piece serves its wearer or the genius of a simple yet refined design aesthetic. Then again, it could just be because it’s rad and we don’t need another reason.

The brainchild of Brunswick local Kristy Barber, Kuwaii’s 2008 launch did the classically clean groundwork for which the brand is now nationally renowned. But the sunny shores of Oz haven’t restricted the intricate design workings of the Kuwaii direction, with Barber making a faceless foray onto the global fashion floor with an internship at the 3.1 Phillip Lim atelier in the Big Apple after garnering a Student Designer of the Year award at LMFF (umm, major). Working alongside Australian forces Lover and Arnsdorf only cemented Barber’s design intelligence. And so Kuwaii was born. But it’s the label’s Spring Summer 13/14 collection that has the fashion flame flickering in the depths of our beauty craving and design hungry waters.

Mimicking the brand’s inherent dedication to clean lines, classic silhouettes and understated detailing finished with timeless and intelligent workmanship, the new collection debuts a fresh approach to casual cool, draping and printing its way to cult status and all-round wardrobe staple.
