EMMA MULHOLLAND AW15 'CRY BIRDY'
Emma Mulholland’s Autumn Winter 2015 collection takes you back to kitsch Australia. Drawing inspiration from holidays at the caravan park and swooping kookaburra’s and cheeky galah’s, combined with the 1950s style of John Waters “Cry baby” and Grease, Emma Mulholland brings you her newest collection, 'Cry Birdy'.
Harnessing her penchant for local wildlife and colour, Mulholland imbues the color palettes and textures this AW from our favorite Australian birds; the vibrancy of the Flaming Gallah, soft subtle pinks of the Major Mitchells and muted yellows from the crested Cockatoo. We see feathered Kookaburra and Magpie embellishments on silk organza and tartan sequin reminiscent of classic Australian school uniforms in a Gallah color scheme.
As always Muholland reflects heartfelt recollections of growing up on the Australian coast and continues to draw inspirations from Australia culture; “In Australia, we have such a rich culture and there’s so much inspiration we can find in our own backyards", she says.
Emma Mulholland's trademark shapes and silhouettes are consistent through the collection and this AW Mulholland introduces new techniques by using screen-printing textures and incorporating embroidery into the designs. Her love of denim shines through with bleaching and stonewash techniques, denim embroidery fraying and velour denim.
Cry Birdy is another collection by Mulholland which will ruffle those feathers.
