ALBA PRAT
Carsten Nicolai’s ideas on synchronization - the relations that exists when things occur at the same time.
The garments are fluorescent-gradient-precise-and-technical works of art, and like Nicolai’s practice, they lie at the intersection of art and science.
“My approach to Carsten Nicolai is through his visualizations of sound phenomena. The questioning of what is heard and what is seen is a recurring subject in his art. It is a play between the visible and the invisible where scientific methods of measurements of the laboratory are turned into visual interpretations.”
Prat recorded her heartbeat twice and through the magic of computer software created visual representations of the noise in distinctive abstract forms, which became the basis for the prints she used. One of the recordings visualizations were “elegant and calm” whilst the other was “sportive and bright”. Though the graphic representations, Prat was able to create these luminous digital prints.
The collection is cool and chic with a sporty edge. Prat isn’t afraid to work with bold minimals; shades of white support fluorescent pinks and opal blues, just as she did with her SS12 “Neon Old School” collection with featured the brightest highlighter yellow.
Alba Prat is a finalist for the H&M 2013 Design Award, which you can vote for her here. Can't wait to see more from this amazing designer!
